My Mother's Battle With Cancer

In March of 1999, my 75-year-old mother, Neoma Counts was diagnosed with "terminal cancer". The Doctors said that it was not curable and recommended chemotherapy to slow it down and buy some time. They said she might live a year. She had tumors in her uterus, pelvis and all lobes of her lungs. There were also enlarged lymph nodes in her abdomen seen by CT scan. The Doctors called it stage 4B, endometrial vs ovarian cancer, and per pathology report, adenocarcinoma, poorly differentiated cell type. He said this was a rapidly growing aggressive type of tumor, which usually responded poorly to chemotherapy. This diagnosis came as a great shock to us as she had always enjoyed excellent health and had her last pelvic exam and Pap smear eight months prior to this, which was normal.

She immediately began chemotherapy (Cisplatin & Adriamycin). I began to pray to God for healing for my mother, as did other family members, and she was placed on numerous prayer lists. I am an RN and my hobby for several years has been studying about natural healing, using diet and natural supplements. I believe that God has given us everything in nature that we need to maintain health. I had read a few books prior to this about people who had been healed of "terminal cancer" using natural therapies. I also have a friend who has a 30-year-old daughter who was diagnosed with lung cancer, stage 3 and she is alive and well 2 years later by using diet and supplements to treat this cancer. I talked with my friend about what their treatment regimen was and I began to pray, read books and watch videos night and day for weeks trying to figure out what would be the best treatment plan. My Mother is also very knowledgeable and interested in natural medicine so together we developed a plan.

My brothers and sister and I bought her a good quality juicer and she began drinking carrot juice daily and making smoothes using tofu and fresh fruit. We decided on a vegetarian diet containing no meat, dairy products or sugar. The diet contained a large amount of soy products. She used a large amount of products from the Mannatech Co. including Ambrotose (an immune system modulator with aloe vera), Phytaloe (freeze dried fruits and vegetables) and Manna Cleanse (a product containing fiber, probiotics and omega 3 fatty acids). She also took pancreatic enzymes, maitake & shaitake mushrooms, green tea, Essiac tea, alpha lipoic acid, ground flax seed, garlic, selenium and a full spectrum of vitamins, anything that we read about that was good for cancer we added to the regimen.

Each time that she went back to the Doctor for check ups, he was amazed at how well she was doing, and each time she had cat scans they showed that the tumors were shrinking. The chemotherapy began to take its toll though and with each treatment she became more nauseated, weak and her appetite became poor. She complained of a constant metallic taste in her mouth. After the sixth treatment the Oncologist recommended a hysterectomy because she had responded so well to the chemotherapy but he said she would have to continue the chemotherapy indefinitely if she wanted to live. He said the tumors were smaller but nonetheless still there and that if she quit taking the chemotherapy, she would probably be dead in 3 to 6 months.

My Mother opted not to do the hysterectomy or any further chemotherapy. Her gynecologist ordered Megase (a progestin hormone) for her to take. Gradually her appetite and strength returned. She became even more vigilant about her diet and supplements and started taking frequent long walks and working out in a gym 3 times a week.

Four months after quitting chemotherapy she returned to her gynecologist for a check up. He ordered a chest x ray. The radiologist found no tumors in her lungs. He did a pelvis exam and found nothing abnormal. He did ultra sound of her uterus and pelvis and found no tumors. There was no cancer anywhere. He only saw some scar tissue. We had received a miracle.

I am certain that God could have cured her instantly if he had chosen to. But I felt that he led us through this field of natural medicine to show us that He has provided us with a cure for cancer is we just recognize it and use it. It is certain that this field of study deserves much more attention and recognition than it is currently given.
